AFVSIBS ### Chapter 180: Can You Really Sing "Qinghai-Tibet Plateau"?
Wu Heng confidently accepted the challenge of singing "Qinghai-Tibet Plateau," a song Zhou Chen had initially planned to release as his new single. Seeing Wu Heng's overconfidence, Zhou Chen decided to let him sing it instead.
Wu Heng, full of confidence, took the song Zhou Chen handed him and boasted without even looking at it, "No problem at all. I don’t care what plateau it is; as long as it's a song, I can sing it."
"Alright, go ahead and sing it now in front of everyone. If you can finish it without going off-key, I'll kneel and sing 'Conquer' for you," Zhou Chen retorted.
The increasing volume of their argument had attracted a large crowd. With so many people watching, Wu Heng couldn't back down. He still believed he could handle the song, so he puffed out his chest and declared, "I'll sing it. Do you think I’m afraid?"
"What’s going on here? Why are you two arguing?" Assistant Li Qiankun happened to pass by, saw the crowd, and curiously asked.
"Assistant Li, you’re just in time. Zhou Chen is afraid I’ll outshine him, so he deliberately writes trivial songs for me. When I asked him to write something else, he belittled me, saying I can only sing trivial songs and nothing else," Wu Heng immediately complained.
Li Qiankun frowned, thinking, "Wu Heng, don’t you know your own capabilities?" However, he couldn’t express this thought openly, as he had to consider both parties' feelings. Smiling, he said, "Wu Heng, it’s not right to argue with Zhou Chen over this. You should discuss and find a reasonable solution."
"It was me who said he can’t sing anything else. He can only handle trivial songs. If he can sing 'Qinghai-Tibet Plateau' without breaking his voice, I’ll kneel and apologize and sing 'Conquer' for him," Zhou Chen couldn't help but chime in.
"Alright, you said it. Don’t back out in front of Assistant Li," Wu Heng retorted.
Li Qiankun intended to mediate, but he thought it might be better for Wu Heng to face reality. Otherwise, even if he resolved this conflict now, Wu Heng would still harbor resentment towards Zhou Chen.
"I said it. Sing it," Zhou Chen affirmed.
"Everyone, watch closely. I’ll prove to Zhou Chen that I can sing more than just trivial songs." Wu Heng began singing "Qinghai-Tibet Plateau" that Zhou Chen had prepared.
However, he realized the song’s difficulty as soon as he started. He went off-key three times before reaching the chorus and struggled terribly during the chorus. Finally, he was too embarrassed to continue and stopped.
Embarrassment and humiliation were written all over his face, and he wished he could find a hole to crawl into.
"Wu Heng, are you convinced now? Just follow Zhou Chen’s lead and sing the songs he writes for you. You’re doing well as it is, starting at the peak," Li Qiankun remarked.
"He did it on purpose. I asked him not to write trivial songs, but he gave me an overly difficult one instead. Even top-tier stars would struggle with this song," Wu Heng argued, clearly unconvinced and blaming the song rather than his own abilities.
"Alright, let Zhou Chen keep 'Qinghai-Tibet Plateau' for himself. Zhou Chen can write another song for you," Li Qiankun suggested.
"Fine, thank you, Assistant Li. I’ll go back to the rehearsal room to practice," Wu Heng said, finding an excuse to leave.
"Everyone, disperse. Don’t gather around. President Chen is coming soon, and it wouldn’t look good," Li Qiankun said, urging the crowd to return to their work.
"Zhou Chen, don’t overthink this. If Wu Heng bothers you again, let me know," Li Qiankun reassured Zhou Chen, clearly valuing him more, as Zhou Chen was Wanhe’s treasure. Without Zhou Chen’s three trivial songs, Wu Heng would be a nobody.
"Thank you, but I’m not bothered by it," Zhou Chen replied indifferently.
"Good. I’ll have someone look into Wu Heng's behavior today. You two still have one more episode of the show to film together. After that, I won’t schedule him on the same show with you," Li Qiankun said, considering the show's needs but ensuring Zhou Chen wouldn’t be paired with Wu Heng again.
"Okay," Zhou Chen nodded, not overly concerned. Wu Heng’s actions didn’t affect him at all.
At 3 p.m., after finishing her meeting, Wan Fangfang returned to the company and heard about Wu Heng's argument with Zhou Chen. She was furious, feeling that Wu Heng had let his recent success go to his head without realizing his actual abilities.
Before confronting Wu Heng, she went to see Zhou Chen to offer some comfort, as Zhou Chen was far more important to her than Wu Heng.
"Zhou Chen, I’m sorry. I was discussing this with Wu Heng, but I got a call and had to go to a meeting, so I didn’t get to finish our conversation."
"It’s alright, Fangfang. This hasn’t affected my appetite or my sleep," Zhou Chen replied casually.
"But Wu Heng went too far. He didn’t understand your good intentions and had the nerve to confront you, thinking you were afraid he’d outshine you. It’s laughable. With his skills, how could he outshine you? If it weren’t for this show, I wouldn’t bother with him."
Wan Fangfang’s words were true. As Wanhe’s most important agent, she normally wouldn’t have anything to do with someone as minor as Wu Heng. Their connection only existed because they were on the same variety show.
But now that Wu Heng couldn’t see his place, Wan Fangfang was understandably furious.
"Let him be. If he wants to prove himself, I’ll give him the chance. Then he’ll see his true self," Zhou Chen said.
