FWTS Chapter 089 Reading Card Pack
"Usually, it's you driving during the livestream, but today, I'm taking the wheel," Qiang chuckled.
Qiang drove with the same wild abandon he applied to everything else. After leaving the city and exiting the national highway, he steered onto a country road. After another half-hour drive, they finally reached their destination: a small village at the foot of a big mountain.
As the saying goes, "A mountain seen from afar kills the horse that tries to reach it," and driving wasn't much different. It took a while to get there, but at least they made it. Upon confirming that Qiang definitely couldn't beat him in a fight or kidnap him, Hou Muyun looked around and asked, "Tianmu Mountain?"
"That's right. How do you like it? After staying in the city for so long, coming to a paradise like this feels great, doesn't it?" Qiang said. "This is a village at the foot of Tianmu Mountain. I heard from Cuo Cuo that her uncle bought a piece of land here on a whim and built a farmhouse. He later rented a lot of nearby fields and started bringing friends here to farm and vacation. Rich people, huh? I heard he bought it early on, and now it's worth several times more. Rich people just live differently—they even manage to turn fun into an investment!"
As the car drove through the village, they could see the surrounding fields, neatly organized and quite picturesque. Soon, the car stopped in front of a farmhouse at the edge of the village. Qiang and Hou Muyun got out of the car.
"This place is nice, right? Cuo Cuo said her uncle's land was recently scouted by a TV crew planning to shoot a reality show here. I heard it's from Mango TV, with a star host and a famous actor leading a group of celebrities to experience rural life."
Qiang shared this bit of gossip as they walked into the farmhouse. The courtyard was spacious, with a row of single-story houses and a lot of flowers and trees, giving it a very rural feel.
"Monkey's here!"
"Monkey, you finally made it!"
"We've been waiting for you!"
Feifei and the others, along with Lao Song and his group, were already there. The groceries had arrived, and Xiao Man had come early from Gusu.
"Monkey."
Cuo Cuo came over with a handsome, refined middle-aged man and introduced him, "This is my uncle. He likes us to call him Uncle Wu."
Hou Muyun greeted him and found him somewhat familiar. "Hello, Uncle Wu. Excuse me for asking, but have we met before?"
Uncle Wu shook hands with Hou Muyun and laughed heartily, "We met briefly at Huashao's house the day before yesterday. You were busy in the kitchen when I visited. I wanted to stay for a meal, but when I heard more celebrities were coming, I left. This morning, Cuo Cuo told me who you were, and I regretted leaving early and missing a great meal!"
Hou Muyun remembered, and also recalled Huashao's introduction of Uncle Wu as a restaurant tycoon from Hangzhou and a foodie. He scratched his head and said, "In front of Uncle Wu, I wouldn't dare call it a great meal. Please try my cooking later."
Uncle Wu waved his hand, "Not today. This is your gathering. It wouldn't be appropriate for an old man like me to join. But next time, I definitely want to taste your cooking. Oh, by the way, you should check the kitchen. I'm here often, but I'm not sure if anything is missing. If you find anything lacking, tell Cuo Cuo to call me, and I'll have someone deliver it. There's also a warehouse with fresh fruits and vegetables. Take whatever you need."
With that, he waved goodbye and left the farmhouse.
After watching him leave, Hou Muyun went into the kitchen to check. Everything was well-stocked, with many high-end kitchen appliances. He gave a thumbs-up and said to Cuo Cuo, "Your uncle's kitchen is top-notch!"
Cuo Cuo laughed, "Of course! Uncle Wu is a big foodie! But unfortunately, this kitchen will soon be demolished. The TV crew plans to make the celebrities cook for themselves in the courtyard for added difficulty and better filming. So, this kitchen will be converted into more bedrooms."
Hou Muyun shrugged, "The rich are indeed willful."
He rolled up his sleeves, put on an apron, and got to work. "Let's start living like the celebrities ahead of time."
Cuo Cuo and the others rolled their eyes, "Aren't you already a celebrity?"
Hou Muyun replied, "Low-key, low-key!"
Everyone laughed and chatted as they washed vegetables and prepared the ingredients in the courtyard, bustling with activity.
As night fell, the courtyard lit up. It was already chilly at the foot of Tianmu Mountain, but Hou Muyun's cooking pace was quick, and the group of foodies ate quickly too, so they didn't worry about the food getting cold. The only downside was that after Hou Muyun finished cooking a table full of dishes, he found the table empty when he returned. He quickly made himself a bowl of fried rice, only for it to be snatched away as well.
After finishing the meal, they drank a little wine, wrapped themselves in their clothes against the night wind, looked at the starry sky, and chatted away. Everyone felt incredibly energized, and before they knew it, it was past eleven o'clock when they went inside. The row of single-story houses was quite spacious, and even with ten people, it didn't feel crowded. They played Werewolf until almost 2 AM before finally dispersing and cramming into a few rooms to sleep.
The next day, Hou Muyun, out of habit, got up early. He cooked a big pot of porridge and prepared some side dishes. Then, with one shout, he woke up all the people who were used to sleeping in and had stayed up late the previous night. They cursed him as a jerk while drooling and rushing to the breakfast table.
"Hey, can't you brush your teeth first?"
"And girls, pay attention to your appearance!"
"…"
Amidst the chaos, a new day began.
Around eight, after tidying up the farmhouse, Hou Muyun and the others left. Cuo Cuo's uncle was very considerate and called several cars to take everyone to the airport and train station in batches. Hou Muyun was also given a separate car ride back to the Cultural and Sports Center.
After chatting with the driver for a bit, Hou Muyun lounged in the back seat, seemingly resting his eyes but actually focusing on the system interface.
When he got up in the morning, Hou Muyun had seen that his points had reached 110,000, meeting the requirements for the card pack lottery.
"Wonder if drawing cards while driving will yield something good."
Hou Muyun silently prayed and started his first card pack draw.
10,000 points deducted!
The card pack compass started spinning, and under Hou Muyun's tense gaze, the pointer landed on the orange area.
A card pack popped out.
[Reading Card Pack (R) x1]
"Reading?"
Hou Muyun was a bit puzzled. Following the prompt, he opened the card pack, which contained quite a few cards.
[Speed Reading Skill Card x1]
[Comprehension Attribute Card x3]
[Comprehension Effect Card x3]
[Speech Speed Attribute Card x3]
[Speech Speed Effect Card x3]
[Memory Attribute Card x3]
[Focus Effect Card x3]
Seven types of cards, totaling 19 cards!
Compared to the previous card draws from the compass, which averaged about two cards per draw, the total number of cards was similar. However, the cards from the pack were all related to a specific ability, making them more useful for Hou Muyun.
As for this reading card pack, Hou Muyun was initially confused. But upon reflection, he smiled.
Recently, whether writing novels, drawing comics, livestreaming, or participating in variety shows, Hou Muyun had been relying on skill cards. Although his attributes had increased besides the cards, his personal "strength" hadn't improved much.
As a novelist, he knew the importance of reading. Just in terms of writing novels, although he often wrote with divine inspiration, as his writing speed increased and ideas flowed more rapidly, he sometimes felt a lack of proficiency in his writing. This wasn't about his writing style but rather his own insufficient foundation.
"This reading card pack came at the right time. It reminds me that it's indeed time to recharge myself!"
