AFVSIBS ### Chapter 163: How About Writing a Song Called "Grasping the Buddha's Feet in a Hurry"?
Jiang Lin had already thought of a tricky and difficult theme, so he said smugly, "The theme I give them is Buddha’s Feet."
"Buddha’s Feet? What kind of theme is that? This term is too obscure. You have to change it," Wu Heng immediately expressed his dissatisfaction upon hearing it.
"Why should I change it? This is the program's rule, and I haven’t broken any rules."
"You..."
"Wu Heng, let him be. I'll just create something based on Buddha’s Feet," Zhou Chen said, pulling Wu Heng back as he was about to say more.
Zhou Chen had already thought of a once-controversial pop song from Earth, called "Grasping the Buddha’s Feet in a Hurry." This song perfectly matched Jiang Lin’s theme of "Buddha’s Feet." Moreover, the song was easy to sing and suited Wu Heng's abilities.
"Then we look forward to your masterpiece. Lu Jie, let’s go," Jiang Lin said arrogantly, then turned and left with Lu Jie.
"Zhou Chen, are you really confident about creating a song based on such an obscure term?" Wu Heng asked seriously. He had gained the fan base and popularity of a second-tier star in the industry thanks to two songs, so he didn’t want to face any setbacks at this point.
"Don't worry. If I say there’s no problem, then there’s no problem," Zhou Chen replied confidently.
"Alright, as long as you say so. When the time comes, we’ll slap their faces hard and let them continue to be envious, jealous, and hateful."
Wu Heng trusted Zhou Chen’s talent, as Zhou Chen had proven himself multiple times recently.
After staying for a while longer, they left Yang Tao TV station. In the evening, they had dinner together and then went home.
Once home, Zhou Chen didn’t rush to compose "Grasping the Buddha’s Feet in a Hurry." Instead, he went to the mall to buy some gifts for Su Qingge's birthday party tomorrow. After all, going to someone’s birthday party empty-handed felt impolite to Zhou Chen. Moreover, Su Qingge was kind and treated him well, so he felt it was right to bring a birthday gift.
The next morning, as soon as Zhou Chen arrived at work, Wu Heng came to find him and asked if he had any inspiration for the "Buddha’s Feet" theme.
"Wu Heng, are you really worried about this?"
"If it were anyone else, I might be very worried. But with you, it’s okay. After all, you are a musical genius. I believe in you," Wu Heng said with a smile.
"If you believe in me, then that's it. I’ll write it up and send it to you later. Just wait for it," Zhou Chen replied.
"So you already have an idea. Great, I’ll go back and wait for your good news," Wu Heng said happily and then turned to leave.
“Zhou Chen, Manager Su is looking for you. Come with me.”
Just after Wu Heng left, Wan Fangfang came over.
“Manager Su? Which Manager Su?”
“Su Jing, the newly appointed manager at Wanhe Entertainment, replacing Wang Wei,” Wan Fangfang answered.
“Got it.”
Zhou Chen replied briefly and then got up to follow Wan Fangfang to the new manager's office.
“Fangfang, Zhou Chen, you’re here. Please have a seat.”
Su Jing warmly invited them to sit down.
“Thank you, Manager Su. We were wondering why you called us here?” Wan Fangfang asked politely.
“Zhou Chen is currently our star at Wanhe Entertainment, trending on the hot search almost every day, and his song downloads are skyrocketing. So, I thought about it yesterday and felt it was unfair to keep Zhou Chen on a trainee contract. I want to switch his contract model,” Su Jing said.
Upon hearing this, Wan Fangfang immediately felt uneasy. Previously, Li Qiankun had also tried to change Zhou Chen's trainee contract to a long-term one, but Zhou Chen had directly refused. She figured that since Su Jing had just taken over as manager, he was unaware of this situation and had come up with this idea.
“Zhou Chen, do you have any objections? I’m considering your best interests. Every one of your songs now has over 20 million downloads, with ‘Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies’ exceeding 50 million. It’s not a stretch to say it will reach 100 million. According to the trainee contract, you and the company split the profits 80-20, with you only getting 20%. If you switch contracts, you can earn more money.”
Su Jing directly asked Zhou Chen.
“Manager Su, I appreciate your concern for my interests, but if it’s a long-term contract, I’d rather not,” Zhou Chen stated his position clearly.
“This…”
Su Jing didn’t know what to say for a moment; he hadn’t expected Zhou Chen to respond so directly.
“Manager Su, Assistant Li had previously approached Zhou Chen about a long-term contract, and Zhou Chen refused as well. So, I think we can put this matter on hold for now,” Wan Fangfang explained.
She intentionally mentioned Assistant Li to make Su Jing understand that even Chen's personal assistant couldn’t make Zhou Chen sign a long-term contract, and there were no hard feelings. Wan Fangfang didn’t want another “Wang Wei” situation, as it would make her position as an agent difficult.
“Alright, we’ll respect Zhou Chen’s wishes and put this matter on hold.”
Sure enough, Su Jing didn’t push further when he heard that even Assistant Li couldn’t persuade Zhou Chen. He had also heard about Zhou Chen’s quirky personality and, while surprised by the refusal, he could accept it.
“Thank you, Manager Su. If there’s nothing else, we’ll head out?”
“There’s one more thing. Many variety shows have sent invitations to Zhou Chen. You need to quickly decide which shows to accept. We don’t want them to think Wanhe is intentionally delaying,” Su Jing instructed.
“Rest assured, Manager Su. I will respond to the shows promptly,” Wan Fangfang assured.
“Alright, if there’s nothing else, you can go back to your work.”
Su Jing didn’t put on airs, knowing that Zhou Chen was highly valued by the higher-ups. After delivering his message, he let Zhou Chen and Wan Fangfang leave.
“Sister Fangfang, have I offended another manager?”
“Finally afraid of offending people?”
“No, I just don’t want to trouble you,” Zhou Chen said.
“I’m glad you said that, but don’t worry. Su Jing is different from Wang Wei. Although he has the demeanor of a manager, he has a good heart and won’t mind you refusing the long-term contract,” Wan Fangfang said.
“That’s good. I’m off to write a song for Wu Heng.”
“Have you really thought of a song for Wu Heng? Jiang Lin’s theme is quite tricky. Just the term ‘Buddha’s Feet’ is hard to work with.”
“It’s not hard. I’ve already got the title: ‘Grasping the Buddha’s Feet in a Hurry.’”
